Did the news give a first name Casper? I can't find the story on their websites yet.

More than likely, names won't be released to the public until family is notified.

This is terrible, some family has lost a loved one this evening and are heartbroken. I have a friend who is an Athletic Trainer at CJC, this is why I was so curious about a first name being given. I am so sorry for whoever it was, it is tragic.

Certainly explains why they can't reach him. Maybe they meant Game Warden? Who is responsible for patrolling the lake?

The police department has a boat and also sit at the point occasionally checking coolers for alcohol, when they aren't on the interstate. Which is where they were today...

There's that question again..When they are on the Interstate, who's tending to town? Maybe DPS could sit at the point, which is where today's incident is reported to have happened.

it is so terrible for his family. I also feel so bad for the kids who where there and unable to help. They must feel so bad right now, but there was nothing that they could do without risking their own lives. Was the trainer out there alone? Please remind everyone to always go swimming with a buddy. Or several buddies that are good swimmers.

Will also be praying for all those involved.

This young man was a 19 year old student, not a trainer from what I understand. Praying for all of those who are suffering from this tragic loss.

He was a student in the athletic training program I believe. He did have friends out there I found out, but after he went under they were unable to find him to bring him back up, even though the tried. He was found late last night, and the college had something this morning for the facuilty and students.

I'd heard that the kid couldn't really swim and that a girl was trying to help him out. Eventually she got tired and he was going under, but couldn't save him without drowning herself. They were in 30 ft of water at the time.

Let's remember that many people are grieving over this situation and really don't want to read about the condition of the body after being under water for five hours.

You can't imagine how devastated some of the kids on campus are.

Hmmm. That's where you are wrong. I've had many classmates die. One accidently drove off a cliff into the water. Another was in a car accident that drowned. Plus, there was the school shooting. I've been around all kinds of things.

My niece was pretty shook up about it. She had a hard time sleeping, after witnessing what happened. The thought of watching someone die right in front of you can be traumatizing. You are right JJ, it is a very devastating thing for young people to endure. The Cisco high school students lost a classmate this week and now CJC has. Praying for all the people that are hurting.

Ok, I see. JJ works at CJC and she was referring to the students there. It is hard to deal with, when tragedy strikes, when you least expect it. It is especially hard for the younger kids.

    Full Story Detail
CJC Student Drowns At Lake Cisco

    Friday, Apr 25, 2008 @03:59pm CST

The body of an 18-year-old Metroplex man has been recovered from Lake Cisco. He drowned last evening.

18-year-old Eric Birdsong-Nelson was in the athletic training program at Cisco Junior College.

He and a number of friends from CJC were swimming at Lake Cisco when he fell into the water, apparently panicked, and went under. Friends attempted to help but could not save the 18 year old.

Cisco Volunteer Fire Department and Game Wardens organized the search after receiving the call around 6 last evening of a possible drowning at the lake.

Eric Bidson-Nelson is from the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Just the begining of water activities for the season. Was just a year ago the little girl drowned at Lake Leon. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE- anyone going to the water areas, be very very careful. Take extreme caution & all you parents who get told you are too protective, continue being over protective. At least you will have your children around for the future when they tell the stories about you. LOL

Prayers are with all that were somehow associated to this incident.

    Re: Drowning in Lake Cisco?

Is it just me or does there seem to be alot of drownings at the lake in Cisco? I know just the short time I've been here I can think of 5 drownings.... that's really kinda high I think. Along with the advice previously given to always swim with friends....we should preach to only swim in water you can touch. I too am guilty as a kid about swimming to the "other" side of the lake...thank god nothing happened. During our trip we actually had floaties to use if we got tired. This is so sad, I pray for his family and all the kids that witnessed this it will be difficult for them.
