Saturday, June 5th, at 10:00 AM, the Eastland Police Department, Eastland Lions Club, and Eastland Memorial Hospital will be hosting the 7th annual Bicycle Safety Rodeo. The Bike Rodeo will be held at the Eastland Hospital parking lot just north of the Daugherty Street Church of Christ.
Free bicycle helmets will be provided to all participants, as well as T-shirts provided by the various sponsors. In addition, three brand new bikes will be given away in a drawing immediately following the rodeo.
All ages are welcome! Bring your bike, scooter, or tricycle and join in the fun.
We will be recording the serial numbers of bicycles so that they can be returned to the rightful owner if they are stolen and recovered. "Rodeo" sounds like something that may exclude younger kids, but it's not. It is simply a course laid out on the ground for the riders to follow, and young folks can easily participate and win.
Cost to participate? Nothing! It's free, compliments of the businesses, organizations and individuals who so generously contributed to make it possible.

Wanna say "Thank You" to all the merchants and individuals that made the Bicycle Safety Rodeo possible. Their generous contributions purchased the helmets, T-shirts, and bicycles that will be given away tomorrow morning.
Special thanks to the Eastland Lions Club for their active participation! Great project! Even if you don't have kids, come on down and watch the kids! And a special note to parents: Please don't let the helmets gather dust after the rodeo... see to it that your child rides safely. The helmets are made to protect your child from brain injury in case of a fall. Encourage them to wear them each and every time they ride! Please!

I hope lots of kids turn out for this! We are really going to try to make it! I am very concerned about some kids on scooters in my neighborhood! I am not sure who they are but several times now I have seen a LITTLE girl crossing Oaklawn on Plummer street on a scooter and never looking for cars coming! We have lots of teenagers that travel a little fast on this street and I am terrified that this child is going to get run over! There are stop signs on Plummer street but the kids go right through them without even looking. I hope this will be covered at the bike rodeo. I have seen one child killed on a bike around here and that is enough for a lifetime! No, it's one too many!!

We had about forty kids register and go through the course. Three of them were the lucky winners of brand-new bikes!
I want to express my appreciation to all who participated and made the rodeo possible. The Eastland Lions Club worked very hard to make it happen, as did several volunteers.
Thanks to all of you! :)
