    California

Do you know what happened 159 years ago... back in 1850?

    California became a state.
    The people had no electricity.
    The state had no money.
    Almost everyone spoke Spanish.
There were gunfights in the streets.
So basically nothing has changed except the women had real breasts and the men didn't hold hands.
"Dear God, this year please send clothes for all those poor ladies on Grandpa's computer, Amen."

Another very funny thing from BigGunz. Amazing that, considering everything that has gone on in the Golden State for the last 159 years, they are, in many ways, right back to where they started.

With one exception; I would imagine that 159 years ago, folks there assumed their future would always get brighter. But after over a century and a half of sometimes glowing like a supernova, the future for California now looks bleak.

Sad to say, California is not the only state having a rough time of it right now.
It all seems to depend on what individual is doing the leading. Some of our leaders have never had to think about where the next paycheck goes so how in the world can we expect them to manage billions of dollars? Having the education and popularity is necessary, I understand ,but old fashioned common sense sure fits in there also.
I really believe we are lucky here in the small town area and are feeling the crunch least of all.

The State of Kaleefornicate is going broke because the high taxes are running the taxpayers out of the state. All that is left is those getting payouts by the state. The victims here are the state workers, those that are actually working for the tax dollars.

Just this last week a group met in Eastland with relatives to play golf for a week. One bunch flew in from Atlanta--they work for Delta--the Masters was on and they wanted out of town. The other group were from San Jose and the state is so broke that state employees were taking upto two weeks to issue licenses because they have cut their forces from three employees to one. Our area is truly fortunate not to have to worry about the effects of the economy.

While we have not been as effected as California or New York, we have not gotten off totally free. A lot of Texans are employed by businesses whose home base is in those states and have been part of the nationwide layoffs. As well as businesses, like the one that I work for that provides services both in the US and the UK. I personally have taken a pay cut and reduction in benefits this month, as did the other 20 people employed by the small company.
