    What Wrong With This Board?

This board is so slow people have stopped reading it. I know the facebook, google, and twitter links slow it down. The board lost many readers and posters before when a virus infected users computers.

For me it's the virus that comes from what people post. I tire of the name calling when a good debate can't be made. I read some, but don't post much anymore.

I agree with pianoman. Too much name calling, bs, no attempt to post ANY factual info. All slanted to make someone or some entity/group look bad. ENOUGH. PS, I dont read the eastland telegram anymore either. Lot of good people doing and trying to do good things in this town and this area and lots of people trying to make them and this area look bad. ENOUGH.

We just need another "world's worst prom" or selling porn collection to perk thing up.

I was referring to the server speed. There's something wrong with this board and the microplex news because they keep hanging up and are slow like they have caught another bug.

Garden? I was hit with a wave of grasshoppers last week in Mingus, I like to have got seasick walking the coastal fields. I noticed one son had high hopes for watermelon & squash at the stock tank. The greenhouse beefsteak tomatoes coming out of far west Texas are big sellers here but without the taste of vine ripe tomatoes.

Here's a possible problem. Lately, when anyone tries to start a dialog about issues, someone feels compelled to drag the thread off on a completely unconnected tangent.

I eat at least one a day year around, some times for breakfast with hot biscuits, sausage and sometimes with grits. I spent a few days in Sonora with a Mexican engineer & the Mexican cook always served vine ripe tomatoes with breakfast.

This is allowed because of poor moderation. The administrators should start a new thread and move irrelevant posts to the appropriate thread, or delete them.

Not sure what JP and Oldgoats agenda are, but tomato and DQ catfish posts on unrelated threads are not appreciated. I think they know that and is why they are doing it. Start your own thread.

If you don't know how to start a new thread, just say so and we'll walk you through it. No need to continue in that state of confusion.

There was a time when moderation seemed important. I can dust off the moderator skills again real quick if you think it'd make a difference.

What politics? Mutha posited that structural problems with the server for this board, as well as for Microplex News, was largely responsible for the lessened participation. I tend to agree, as the server makes glaciers look absolutely speedy. People misunderstood the original post and "spun" it off in a weird direction.

Then came the habitual thread destroyers who attempt to derail anything they don't agree with or understand. Tomatoes and onion rings. Brilliant.

Julie and CG deliberately try to not overly moderate the board. It shouldn't be necessary for them to enforce the common courtesy inherent in not purposefully crapping on threads.

There's an easy solution for those who aren't interested in, are tired of, or don't understand a thread. Just skip it.

What, Gary Bauer doesn't have something you could cut and paste?

If you don't understand the conversation, just find another one. This one, if you're confused, has to do with the message board. Not tomatoes. Not onion rings. And not oreos.

It's kind of natural problem, like all of these grasshoppers we are having now.

This may be a chicken/egg disagreement vis-a-vis the Spin. I stopped keeping up with user stats three or four years ago but the precipitous drop off in participation preceded the partial upgrade to vB4.

The largest contributors to Spin irrelevance were: Miss Mally took up golf, Facebook and post-election 2009.

The last time we had a modest bump in activity was in the first month or two after the exodus and formation of the local liberal utopian forum. In retrospect that was more of a death rattle than a resurgence.

And finally, the unfortunate sidelining of Flipocrat seemed to take the wind out of everyone's sails. I wasn't keeping stats at that time but it was palpable.

As for MicroplexNews: The problem is we have completely outgrown what WordPress is designed to do. I'm looking at hardware and software options. A new software platform is probably in order but that essentially means starting over. Hardware is a possibility but there are limitations to how far we can stretch Wordpress. We're already on a 64bit LINUX server with gads of memory...

I hope participation on the spin doesn't dwindle to such a low level that Julie and Curious George don't think it is worth their effort. I like the spin.

Ditto oldgoat. It seems to be working much better now thanks george. I wasn't sure if the server caught a bug, or it was my internet provider. Our area doesn't have any internet service to speak of.

lol.... I believe you've derailed a thread or two turning something completely void of politics into some Republican plot. I haven't looked.. have you inserted some politics into the garden/grasshoppers thread yet?

It's been discussed. But my opinion is to let it die a natural death... or, since I always try to be optimistic... enough people realize that the Spin is different from Facebook and bring their local observations back here to the local people.

There's just something about Facebook that seems way too public on a national scale for me to say what I think there. I'm constantly biting my tongue when reading comments from "Facebook friends" (not to be confused with actual friends). Here.. it's like being among friends that already know what I look like without my makeup on.

When that happens, I will wait until the discussion has died off and everyone has made their points before I seek to rekindle the thread, unless mingus goes on a tangent first.

Personally, I like the new forum better. Mainly because MM isnt on it, but its nice just to discuss the goings on in the area without all the B.S. that MM and the like bring to this forum.

You weren't made welcome by the posters because of the way you acted. You tried to get me to meet you somewhere to "kick my ass" because you didn't agree with something I posted. Your other posts threatened blowing someone away with your "44 magnum." No one was impressed. If you don't like the way people treat you, then change the way you act.

If you don't like my B.S. you can put me on your ignore list. I'm not wasting any time on you to show you how to do that, because no one is on my ignore list. I read what others have to say because they read my posts. Or we just skim over them sometimes.

The only thing wrong with this board is that it "times out" when you are trying to compose a post. If you pause to re-read your post, or give it some thought before pulling the trigger, you have to log in again before you can post it. Major hassle!

I know... I know... there are ways to get around it with your browser's cookie settings, etc., but I don't want to change the way my computer functions just to reply to a post.

Now that I've vented my frustrations, on with the show!

It does that to me too Cecil because I might compose part of a reply, then go do something else and come back later. By then I am timed out, so I copy my reply where I won't lose it, log back in, then paste and post.

You don't have to do a thing to your computer or your browser. In fact, there is nothing you can do to your computer or browser to get around it.

All you need to do is check the "Remember Me?" box when you log in. Take all the time you need then when you're done with the Spin just click Log Out.

I paid for another year on the domain name.

What CG said about the log in problem...
I have gone so long without having to log in that I've almost forgot my password. I don't think I have to log in on any of my devices.

By the way. Anyone who wants to use the tapatalk app to get to the Spin on your phone or tablet, they are now offering it free. It sure is a faster easier way to Spin on your android or iphone.

Some of us don't come here because it's thread after thread of Obama-bashing on the front page. I'm not suggesting you all adopt a liberal agenda (though that would be nice) but isn't there anything else to talk about besides stupid politics?? I came here just now hoping that someone would be able to tell me how much the rain has helped the lake, or even better, maybe someone had a pic of the lake. But no, just more conservative politics ad nauseaum.

It's name calling comments like this that keep members off this board. It's really redundant when grown ppl can't have a discussion/debate without trying to make themselves feel better through putting others down.

Well, yes, to a large degree. If I see it's a thread started by mingus I know it's going to be narrow-minded diatribes and insults rather than a healthy respectful debate. And when the front page is full of those I just log off and do something else.
I know that we all have our differences but being nasty or mean to people who think differently doesn't earn any respect from me. Not that mingus would care. He'll just call me some insulting name because I don't hold the exact same opinion he does.

Well, since you did not start this string, your name precedes anything you may have to say to me. And It pretty well sums up everything you have had to say. So in parting you may stick it up your rear where the sun never shines.

Probably Ronald Reagan. Based on a quote by Josh Billings, which was based on a quote from Benjamin Franklin.

Do you ever have anything kind to say? Or for that matter the rest of my so called liberal friends. I am so abused, woe is me. Do you still hate tomatoes? You sure don't like poetry.

Different readers are looking for different things. Some look for facts, some for fiction, some for drama, others for a good fight, politics, or religion. There are those here who can meet those needs.

Yes, and you're one of the rare exceptions who've never participated in anything like that. An inspiration to us all.

I think most readers are here for a good show, and most of us are way too polite for what they want to read here.
